Saturday Academy is dedicated to providing the
practical, hands-on, intellectual learning
experiences that young people increasingly require
to succeed in today’s world. Our organization is
founded on the firm belief that students benefit
from forms of education that go beyond conventional
classroom instruction. We create meaningful and
challenging experiences for inquiring young minds,
by placing students in direct contact with
accomplished and successful professionals in the
students’ own community, and by giving them the
opportunity to investigate real-life problems and
issues.
Saturday Academy is a non-profit, extracurricular,
precollege education program hosted by Oregon State
University. The program, chartered at OSU since
1986, enlists community professionals to share their
facilities, equipment, and expertise through
hands-on classes, workshops, and mentorships to
extend and augment the science curriculum of the
school systems. Saturday Academy places special
emphasis on the sciences, math and technology.
Scholarship assistance is available.
Saturday Academy received several awards during the
‘90’s, among them:
The Presidential Award for Excellence in
Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring
by President William J. Clinton, 1996
For Kids’ Sake Award, Saturday Academy’s
Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering
Program—“In recognition of your commitment to
help educate youth so they are prepared to meet
tomorrow’s challenges.” Presented by Oregon’s
KPTV, Porltand, 1996

Watershed Research Project, presented by
